I am an avid user of Visio, and recently upgraded to Visio 2016. However, I cannot open Stencils created in 2013, 2010, or 2007.This is a HUGE problem, as I have previous Stencils and Drawings to update and modify.I have looked in the Trust Center where we could change previous version access/opening. However, despite being able to check boxes, the options below to enable certain rules are all greyed out. And I cannot change this. This is a MAJOR ROADBLOCK for me creating Azure Architectures for customers!!! As well as updating previous documentation and stencils.PLEASE HELP!!! Hi MichaelGrasso,According to your description, this issue seems occurred with the custom stencils.

I have a couple of questions:. Was there any error message when opened them?. Which format did you save them?
Visio Stencils or Visio 2003-2010 Stencils? Then, please go to File=Option=Trust Center=File block settings and un-check all the settings. We can enable all of them:. Visio 2003-2010 Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils. Visio 2000-2002 Binary Drawings, Templates and Stencils.
Visio 5.0 or earlier Binary Drawing, Templates and StencilsHope it's helpful.Regards,George ZhaoTechNet Community SupportPleasemark the reply as an answer if you find it is helpful. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact. I have got.vsd files (Microsoft Vision 2003-2010 Drawing) diagrams created in a Visio Premium version enabling the BPMN and UML artefacts/shapes.My workstation got upgraded to Visio2016; now I am unable to edit any of the diagrams as the shapes are all 'protected' such way I cannot get any access to the shape properties. Having unchecked the suggested boxes and whatever I try to do: no result @ all.Why does the Visio2016 software not just simply enable me to do my job and edit/tune the previously created diagrams? Is there a way to help me?
As far as I can tell the stencil is Visio 2003-2010 Stencil. Even saving it as a.vssx file in Visio 2013 still gets me a 'Visio cannot open the file or part of the file because it is damaged' in Visio 2016 (translated from Dutch). The.vssx file opens fine in Visio 2013.When I try to open the.vssx file in the File Open dialog I get an 'internal Visio error #3400, Action 1012: Opening Stored File. Try to close the file first and then to re-open it.
Then restart Visio (sic!)' (again translated fromDutch).Same goes for the.vstx file.
I use Visio for network diagrams. Some of my ex-colleagues saved unwanted visio stencils ( shapes, objects and all sorts of nonsense things ) when they saved the original VSD file. These stencils are neither used in the diagram nor they are seen in the shape sheet of the diagram but whenever I open that VSD file, Visio software opens up around 200 of those unwanted stencils with this one diagram. Is there a one click solution to solve this issue?P.S: These stencils are not part of VSD file. So the common suggestion to right click and select 'close all stencils' wont work.
